oh, daddy matt

sometimes i look across the room and there you are kissing sully on his chubby cheeks at the exact moment ez decides to jump on your back and ask for a ride and i watch you protect our baby from his terrorizing older brother but also not freak out too much since ez isn't even 3 yet and you know he needs to be allowed to be wild and crazy but maybe just move away from your brother and you can play and of course i can play with you but we need to be gentle because of sully and yes you can kiss him but not too hard and then you freak out a little because this is insanity and then one minute later you're laughing hysterically over ez's antics and sighing deeply because sully's eyes are so blue and wonderful and you are filled with so much happy and i know it's because you're right there in the trenches doing what you do and there is no place you'd rather be than covered in all the happy and the hard and the blasted snot with us.

happy father's day, you big beautiful man.

along with a card and a family movie date, i planned a little chocolate chip cookie taste test for matt (since chocolate chip cookies rule his dessert world.) it was so fun! i made my homemade one that he loves and then bought 5 from places around our house to compare. here are some results in case you're interested:

BEST OF SHOW: Homemade! (#4) "It's like a hug in my mouth. Perfection. The right amount of soft and crispy with the best chocolate chips." (He might be a little biased since this is basically the taste of home for him... ha.)

RUNNER UP: Smart Cookie (#2) Won for best looking. Milk Chocolate chips, good texture "Mmmmmm... this one is good."

3RD PLACE: Paradise Bakery (#5) "A questionable display... but surprisingly good. Dough is good but can't taste the chocolate chips. Maybe a little too gooey for me."

4TH PLACE: Kneader's (#3): They use semi-sweet chips and matt is a milk chocolate enthusiast. "Perhaps a little too floury for me?"

5TH PLACE: Burger King (#1) Bit dry, chocolate tastes bitter, "but has a good aftertaste."

6TH PLACE: Straws (#6) The presentation is horrendous (last place in looks) and it is not good at all. "It's something you might find at a ward activity and be disappointed you ate it."

LOVE YOU, MATTY. I'll forever keep you a little chubby with as many cookies as you'd like!
